My Story in Golf

Course agronomy

My golf course maintenance career began at Bearpath Golf & Country Club in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. During my first summer at the club, I gained comprehensive, hands-on experience across all aspects of golf course maintenance at a high quality private facility. This experience allowed me to develop a strong understanding of daily course setup, seasonal agronomic practices, and the long-term planning required to maintain elite playing conditions in a northern climate. I worked closely with the superintendent and management team, contributing to discussions and preparation for a major renovation scheduled for the following spring.

The following summer, the renovation process began, and the pace intensified immediately. I was directly involved in removing existing irrigation lines and bunker sand, sod cutting greens, and applying spray programs to fairways, tees, and approaches. Being part of a full course renovation became a defining experience, solidifying my passion for golf course maintenance and my desire to leave a lasting mark on a golf course. During this time, I enrolled at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California, to further my education and strengthen the foundation of my growing career in turfgrass management.

My education at College of the Desert played a significant role in shaping both who I was as a student and who I am today as an assistant superintendent. Leaving Minnesota, my lifelong home, pushed me outside of my comfort zone and ultimately deepened my passion for the golf course management industry. While at College of the Desert, I built lasting relationships with fellow students and faculty that I remain connected with today. These connections led to a part time opportunity at Eldorado Country Club, where a fellow student serving as the assistant superintendent offered me a position. Managing a full academic schedule while working part-time and competing on the men’s golf team required discipline and time management, skills that continue to benefit me professionally.
My time at Eldorado Country Club was a valuable learning experience and a significant cultural shift, highlighting how turf management practices vary across different climates. Located in the desert, overseeding ryegrass was an annual process, and being involved in every aspect of that program provided hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of seasonal transitions. That knowledge has proven beneficial in my current role, particularly with overseeding practices. During my final year of school, I was fortunate to have my now-wife, Sidney, living with me while she continued her education online through Parker University in Dallas, Texas. Following my graduation, I accepted my first assistant superintendent position at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas, marking the next step in my professional career.
The southern heat is not for the faint of heart—a lesson I quickly learned as I began my management career. At Brook Hollow Golf Club, I gained a strong understanding of what it takes to operate a premier golf facility. During my first summer, my wife and I welcomed our son, Miles, into the world. Becoming a father gave me a broader perspective and added motivation in both my personal life and career. While at Brook Hollow, I managed small construction projects, assisted with irrigation renovations, supported tournament operations, and contributed daily to course conditioning and agronomic programs.
In June 2025, I felt ready for a new challenge and took the next step in my career by joining Trinity Forest Golf Club. The welcome I received from the crew and management was unlike any other, immediately making my family and me feel at home. Being part of such a collaborative and driven team has given me a new perspective on golf course management, one centered on inclusion, communication, and shared accountability.
At Trinity Forest, I have continued to develop as a manager and agronomy professional through active involvement in daily maintenance operations, long term planning, and the care of a distinctive firm-and-fast playing style. The club’s culture of precision, teamwork, and continual improvement has strengthened my leadership abilities and deepened my commitment to delivering championship-level golf.
